Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

Great news!! Thanks to PirateTeacherFriend for providing me with what will likely be my first subbing assignment! September 11th! Just think - this time last year if you had told me I would be subbing I would have laughed in your face - and yet - here I am! YAY! And the super-weird thing is that I am not really nervous. Maybe I will be that day - but not now. Not yet... Maybe I won't be - who knows?!

And so it would seem that being brave and requiring more of myself is paying off.

I need lots of positive vibes this coming Thursday please! Think of me! :D

You were meant to do this.

I substituted when I first graduated from college and couldn't find a job. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I substituted from kindergarten through high school. I wasn't nearly as prepared as you are and I did fine. You'll do awesome...I'm sure of it. I'm sure you'll get requested a lot. The teachers were so impressed I followed their lesson plans, I kept getting calls. One of my former teachers I subbed for told me it's rare to find a sub that actually tries to follow the lesson plan. Don't know if things have changed since the early
80's. Subbing didn't provide healh benefits and I was single, so I had to find another career, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

TY GMOM - I am really looking forward to it - and I am all about following lesson plans. I can't imagine the arrogance of someone steamrolling over a teacher's plans in his or her own classroom. To me, they have asked me to be a steward to their room for the time they must be out and I owe it to them to do that very thing - to keep things in tact and on schedule to the best of my ability.

My daughter subbed for a year and not only learned a lot, but she also made some great contacts and wound up getting an offer the next year in the school she wanted. Have a great time. Should make for some fun posts!

Congratulations, Daisy!!! You will do great. I'm sure of it.

Once, in high school, we had a substitute teacher and her name was "Hername." I'm not sure of the spelling, but that is the way it was pronounced - Hername. That brought a lot of laughs among the students.

"Do you have the substitute teacher today?"

"I don't know. What's her name?"

"Hername."

"Yeah, what's her name?"

"Hername."

"That's what I asked you! What's her name?"

It reminded me of Abbot and Costello's "Who's on First?" routine. lol.

You'll do great I'm sure :)

Our least favorite sub-teacher was called "Chrome-dome" He had the shiniest head you've ever seen!! And no, nobody knew his real name!

On a similar subject, my Geography teacher was called Mr. Street !!

Congratulations! I know you will do well. "Speak softly and carry a big stick." ;-) It works for me.
