When I look up...

I see gas prices.

In what universe is it perfectly acceptable for it to cost me $40 - FORTY DOLLARS people!!! - to fill my little Beetle with gas?!??! 87 octane. Nothing special.

Look on the bright side, in the UK it would cost you around $90 to fill her up :O

Okay, you even got me laughing on that one! :)
So, how do you like the new trend of CASH prices and CREDIT prices? That one's got my husband in an uproar! "What a crock" he says! Now he refuses to buy gas from Shell. I guess we'll see if other gas stations soon follow this trend.

That's not really new though - used to be like that all the time. I THOUGHT they decided it wasn't legal to charge a surcharge on credit card purchases. I don't know - I only buy from the little station across from BP - is it Citgo? I don't know - I buy there because they are friendly.

Duh! I should have remembered that, I grew up working at my Dad's gas station. You just refreshed my memory, it DID used to ALWAYS be that way. :) That's funny! :) I just got so wrapped up in my husbands whining about it that I forgot.

It's all relative. I remember the days of my first car when gas was 21 cents a gallon, if bought at an in-town service station (and yes, they were truly service stations in those days. They pumped the gas, checked your oil and your tire pressure and cleaned your windshield - even if you only bought a dollar's worth of gas; my usual purchase.)

Being a student with a weekend job and very little cash, I always drove out of town to get my gas because it was 16 cents a gallon out on the highway.

Because $50 a week was considered pretty good pay for a full-time job, 21 cents a gallon for gasoline seemed to be kind of expensive.

BTW, my first full time job paid $35 per week and I got married making that amount.

And THAT, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a little thing called perspective!

Fred - at least here in NJ they still pump our gas - but nothing more than that... :)
